Ms. Lieu
Go Vap District
"I got married and moved out to live on my own, not living with my parents. In recent years, my parents have been getting older. Recently, my mother accidentally got a pretty bad burn. My father is also getting older, and my siblings all work far from home. So I researched and booked Mooncare's health care service and received help from Ms. Loan to take care of my wounds every day. My mother has now recovered, but I still book the service so that Ms. Loan can occasionally come and help my parents with their daily activities, taking care of them, and monitoring their health on behalf of their children who are far from home."

Mr. Thanh
Binh Thanh District
"I live alone, far from home, and am an introvert so I like to live alone. Unfortunately, I had an accident and had to wear a cast on my right arm. I couldn't do anything because I was right-handed. I had to quit my job and stay home to recover. I didn't know how to live until I found Mooncare. Mooncare helps me in almost all my activities. Mooncare's staff also have knowledge about health care, and they advise and help me with wound care and nutrition to heal quickly."

Ms. Phuong
District 02
I booked Mooncare's service for a foreign colleague who needed home care because of a severe fever and was highly appreciated by her friend. Mooncare's staff was attentive, monitored her temperature, prepared medicine and food just like a mother. However, the downside is the language barrier. If the staff could communicate better in English, I would rate the service higher. The second downside is that the service is only within the city, so I wanted to book to take care of my relatives in the countryside but couldn't. I suggest Mooncare expand its scope of operations because there are many children in the city who need care services for their parents in other provinces.

Question: How often should I schedule home visits for my elderly parent who has recently been diagnosed with diabetes?
Mooncare responds: The frequency of home visits can vary depending on your parent’s specific health needs, but initially, weekly visits may be helpful to monitor blood sugar levels, adjust medications, and provide education on diet and lifestyle changes. As their condition stabilizes, these visits may be extended to bi-weekly or monthly. However, this should be decided in consultation with your healthcare provider, who can assess and make recommendations based on your parent’s recent health checks and progress. Always ensure there is an open line of communication with the healthcare team for any sudden changes or concerns.
Question: What home care services are available for someone who has just been discharged from the hospital after knee replacement surgery?
Mooncare answers: After knee replacement surgery, home care services may include:
-
Physical therapy : To help restore function and strength to the knee joint.
-
Wound care : Make sure the surgical wound is properly cared for to prevent infection and promote healing.
-
Daily assistance : Help with daily activities such as bathing, eating, and moving around the house.
-
Medication management : Ensure patients take medications on time and monitor for side effects if any.
-
Health monitoring : Watch for signs of infection, unusual pain, or other complications.
Arrangements for these services will depend on the patient's specific medical condition and the recovery plan recommended by the surgeon or health care professional. Please discuss with your home care provider to develop the most appropriate plan.
-
Question: My parent has Alzheimer's, what should I do to ensure they receive the best care at home?
Mooncare answers: To ensure your parent receives the best care for Alzheimer's at home, you may consider:
-
Professional care: Hire a nurse or caregiver experienced with Alzheimer's patients. They can help with medication monitoring, behavior management, and safety.
-
Improve the living environment: Make the home a safe and easy-to-navigate space with good lighting, no obstructions, and perhaps label familiar items to help your parents recognize them more easily.
-
Brain Activities: Encourage activities that help maintain cognitive function such as listening to music, looking at family photos, or light craft activities according to their abilities.
-
Comprehensive health care: Ensure regular health checkups, monitor nutrition and hydration, and manage other possible medical conditions.
-
Family support: Seek support from a counselling group or carer support organisation so you too can get the help and respite you need.
-
Safety: Install safety devices like door sensors, alarms, or surveillance systems to monitor your parents' safety when you're not around.
It is important to maintain communication with the medical team to adjust the care plan as your parent's Alzheimer's disease progresses.
